Our Story
The idea for Untaboo began when our founder, Rachael Kim, took 10 months to solo backpack after spending 10 years in corporate life creating safe, secure products and environments for Fortune 100 and 500 clients and their consumers.
During her global travels, Rachael was able to see and experience period poverty first-hand. Often left with little choice and accessibility, unease and insecurity were her constant companions. Seeing period products littered alongside roads and floating in oceans around the globe only morphed her insecurity to grave concern. She found that she was not alone—both with travellers AND at home in the US. With gender norms shifting and savvy millennial attitudes on the rise, Rachael discovered there is a fast growing movement towards personalized and eco aware period equity.
Using her well-honed research skills, it became clear to Rachael that nobody was yet applying innovative technology in this space to better serve both an individual’s body and the world we live in. Empathy, compassion, and a growing knowledge of period poverty inspired her to take action. The first fully transparent period care marketplace was born!
